Just because you are eating more doesn’t mean you are eating right. The same goes with eating less – it doesn’t always mean it will be beneficial for your health.

- You can go on for hours without eating.
You probably think this is a good thing if you are aiming to shed some pounds. But on the contrary, this can be bad for your overall health. If you don’t eat for several hours, your blood sugar level drops, causing your energy level to drop as well.
The food we eat provides our body with glucose, a simple sugar essential in producing energy that our body needs. Glucose is primarily needed by our cells to make the body’s chief energy transporter called adenosine tripshospate. Without glucose, everything in our body starts to slowdown – thus, making you feel tired, hungry and moody.
To avoid this from happening, light snacks in between meals are recommended. Avoid eating heavy or filling foods though. You can munch on a medium sized banana, few slices of apples or maybe saltine crackers.
- You are addicted to caffeine.
Coffee is essential to kick start our day. An occasional afternoon caffeine fix is acceptable too. But if you rely too much on coffee to provide you energy for you to last the day, well you know something is not right.
Coffee is a diuretic, which means it makes you urinate more frequently than usual. This causes your body to lose more water. The lower the water level is in our system, the slower our blood flows and the more we feel tired.
Little by little, try to change your caffeine intake. If you are used to having more than two cups of coffee a day, try switching it with other drinks until such time you no longer crave for more than caffeine you need.
- You refrain from eating red meat.
While being a vegetarian can provide you a lot of health benefits, staying away from red meat also has some disadvantages to your body. For one, your body might become deficient in iron.
The key role of iron to our bodies is to provide our immune system with strength. If you are iron deficient, you can eat all the best food and still feel tired. The best way to get iron is to eat red meat like beef. However, if you really want to stay away from such, you can consume other alternatives like kidney beans and spinach.
- You are not consuming enough carbs.
Well, we all know the rules about achieving your dream figure: stay away from carbs! This is probably the greatest misconception in history. Carbohydrates help burn fats without draining the energy stored in our muscles.
While it is a no brainer that carbs makes us gain weight, eating in moderation can do great things to our body. Experts suggest having an ideal proportional diet of 50-55% carbohydrates plus 20-25% protein and 25 percent good fats.
If you are too scared to gain weight, opt for whole-wheat options like whole-wheat pasta, breads and potatoes.
- You are always skipping breakfast.
